42. Bacchanalia - An Ode to Wine
Acrylic on canvas
30 x 30 ins
'The Bacchanalia - wild festivals for the god Bacchus - have been an inspiration to many. While classical paintings pay direct homage, the term 'Bacchanal' has been adopted across the Caribbean to describe our own brand of revelry, such as 'Bacchanal Run', an annual celebration in the streets of Bermuda over Emancipation weekend. This work explores connections between the modern and ancient world: a party named for those 2000 years before; a modern scene inspired by 16th century iconography; the redefining of words and concepts across cultures.'
