Artist Statement:
We want people to view our work as an opportunity to observe Bermuda and its culture from the perspective of the diverse individuals that make up our community. From dignitaries to performers, artists, cultural ambassadors, and Bermudians in general, we want everyone to see themselves represented. As artists and founders of one of the Island’s newest Gombey groups, art is a huge part of our lives and our story. Whether it be with paint, fabric, metal, clay or through performing, we are always creating in our household, with each other and with the rest of our family.
The heavy presence of Gombey influence is evident throughout almost all of our work. This is our way of paying homage to the beauty of Gombeys and the very significant part it plays in our lives. We want to give people a view into the side of Gombeys that is usually hidden and aim to showcase the Gombey community in a way that most people have not had the opportunity to see before. This is a chance to pause and appreciate Gombeys in a way that you would normally miss.
